About
Us
Where are
you located? Can I visit your head office?
A. Costea Services SRL is a small Internet-based, translator-owned
agency, located in Bucharest, the capital of Romania (in Eastern
Europe). Having a virtual office allows us to drive down the
cost of our services.
We therefore do not receive clients at our offices. We invite
you to get in touch with us via email, telephone or fax or
through the form available on our contact page.

How
can I verify your references / experience / professionalism?
You can visit our references
page, where you will find a list of recent projects or
you can check out and download some samples of our work.
I
have half a page to translate. Do you accept small jobs?
We accept projects of any size. We do however apply a minimum
charge, fixed at 30 € per project.
How
do I get a personalized quotation?
Please contact us by e-mail, sending your document or a sample
and the following details:
- Length of the document, in words
- Languages to translate from / into
- Subject of the document
- Preferred delivery date
- Other details about the document
We will send you a personalized
quotation in maximum 24 hours.
How can I send you translation material?
- If it is a text, under 4 MB, please
send it by e-mail, in electronic format (Word, Access, PowerPoint,
Excel, etc.). You can also upload it on your FTP site, if
it is larger than 4 MB.
- For translations from hardcopy: you
should send us a scanned copy, save it as a .jpg or .gif
file, and send it to us by e-mail. You can also send it
by fax – see our contact page for the fax number.
- If it is software to be localized,
you should send the source files (or local files if the
software has already been prepared for localization) via
e-mail, or upload them via ftp onto your ftp site.
- If it is a Web site to be localized
then you should give us ftp access to the site's server.
For small web sites, you can also send us the complete structure
in .zip format, via e-mail.

Discount Translations
What
is Discount Translation? When can I use this service?
Discount Translation is a low-priced translation that you
can use when you need to understand what a certain document
says, and it is for your information only.
For example: a possible business partner sent you a letter
and a company brochure in Romanian, and you don’t know Romanian.
We will translate them for you, summarizing the content a
little, so you know what it contains.

Why
can’t I translate my company brochure or my product manuals
with this service? I really like the low price!
When you send an offer to your clients, do you send the first
notes you jotted on paper, or you send a nicely-typed, elegantly
written page, with your company logo?
Just as those first notes you scribbled on a piece of paper
are for your eyes only, so discount translation is not fit
for publication.
It is low-prices indeed, but this is because it is a draft
translation – just the correctly translated text, with no
editing or formatting. If the text is large, we can also split
it between more translators, which can result in slight differences
in the terminology used.
It does serve its purpose, though: you will understand what
is written in the document, without knowing the original language!
I
have used your Discount Translation Service for a document,
but now I want to publish it in the company’s newsletter.
How can I do that, if this kind of translation is “not fit
for publication”?
We will proofread and edit it for you, according to our Strict
Quality Control System for Specialized Translations, so we
bring it up to publication standard. In the discount translation
stage, it does not differ much from the preliminary translation
we do for the docs intended for publication. You can consult

General Translation
What
is General Translation? When can I use this service?
General Translation is a translation on general subjects,
available from and into Romanian.
It can be used for normal letter or e-mail exchanges between
you and your partners or clients in Romania, or if you need
to translate certificates (marriage/birth/death/divorce certificates),
personal records (criminal records, medical records, school
records), diplomas or identity documents, as well as advertisements
of any kind, resumes and CV’s, etc.
We
have a birth certificate that we want translated and certified.
Can you do that?
Yes. The translation will be done by a translator authorized
by the Romanian Ministry of Justice in the respective language
combination. The signature of the translator will be certified
(“notarized”) by a Romanian notary public. This is the usual
procedure in such cases.

Specialized Translation
What
is Specialized Translation? When can I use this service?
Specialized translation is translation on specialized subjects.
It is a high quality translation, used for your most important
documents - corporate material, product brochures, or user
manuals. The quality of these documents has to match your
company image: a professional company, offering quality products.
This is why we only offer this service into our native language
- Romanian, and only in a small variety of specialty fields:
we want to be sure that you get the best quality.
Specialized translation includes editing
by another native specialized translator, layout to match
the original document, and it is subject to our strict, continuous
Quality Control Process.

What

If
we have a text in a field that is not listed in your specialty
fields page, can you translate it?
It depends. For example, we do not translate some legal documents
(laws, sentences, etc.). We do, however translate contracts.
Please send us a sample of the text and, if we cannot translate
it, we could recommend you another translator.

Proofreading & Editing
What
kind of documents can you proofread and edit?
We can proofread/edit for you translations into Romanian done
by other translators and documents written in Romanian language.
For example: technical manuals, marketing and general documents,
website content and other types of documents.

Localization
What
is Localization?
Localization involves taking a product and making it linguistically
and culturally appropriate to the target locale (country/region
and language) where it will be used and sold. (definition
form www.lisa.org)
How
does localization differ from straight translation?
In scope. It is certainly true that localization involves
translation (e.g. of manuals and other documentations, screens,
help texts, and error messages). Equally, product names may
have to be changed to avoid unfortunate associations in the
target language. However, the process also requires other
non-linguistic skills.
On the software programming side, screen dialog boxes and
field lengths may have to be altered, date, time and currency
formats changed, delimiters for figures replaced, and icons
and colors adapted, to give only a few examples.
On the content side, programs often have to be changed to
conform to national and cultural norms. In multimedia applications
the color, size, and shape of objects such as coins and notes,
taxis, telephones and mailboxes, and buses and ambulances,
traditionally vary from country to country. Vehicles may suddenly
have to drive on the other side of the road, while dress codes
will vary, and symbols take on a new significance. Similarly,
mainstream business applications such as address databases
and financial accounting packages have to be adapted to the
procedures and conventions applicable in their new environments.

Are you able
to download our website to localize it?
We are able to download any non password-protected site using
software for this purpose. However this method has its limitations.
We use this system for estimation work, but for the actual
site localization we prefer that the client supplies us with
the complete structure, or that we are given ftp access for
download from the server where the site is.
